The President of the State Entrusts the Formation of the Government to Kulberg
State President Edgars Rinkēvičs entrusted the formation of the government to the candidate for Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs (AS) on Wednesday.
The State President announced at the beginning of October that the new government should be formed by Kulbergs. However, the State President officially names the candidate for Prime Minister only after the outgoing government has resigned in connection with the convening of the newly elected Saeima.
The newly elected Saeima convened for its first meeting on Tuesday, and shortly thereafter, the current Kulbergs government announced its resignation. In the 15th Saeima elections, AS gained 41 seats, 'Latvia First' (LPV) - 17, the party alliance 'Sovereign Power/Union of New Latvians' (SV/AJ) - 15, the National Alliance - ten, 'Progressives' - ten, and 'New Unity' (JV) - seven mandates.
