Rubio dismisses rumors of leaving Trump administration
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday dismissed media reports that he planned to leave President Donald Trump's administration after the Republican defeat in the midterm elections, the New York Times reported.
"My plan has always been to work for President Donald Trump until the end of his term," Rubio said in an interview with the newspaper. Rubio, who also serves as Trump's national security advisor, is widely regarded as a potential successor to Trump in the 2028 presidential election.
Just a few days before the midterm elections, Rubio, unusually for himself, accompanied Trump at a campaign event and even briefly took the stage to address the crowd. However, on Thursday, Rubio declined to answer questions about his political future, stating that he would no longer discuss 2028.
Commenting on reports that he was considering leaving the Trump administration, Rubio told the New York Times, "Honestly, I don't know where these rumors are coming from."
