Forecasts: Democrats Have Regained Control of Both Houses of the US Congress
US television channels predict that Democrats have regained control of both houses of the US Congress, defeating President Donald Trump's Republicans in the midterm elections.
Democrats have regained control of the House of Representatives and have also taken Senate seats from Republicans in at least six states, including Republican strongholds in South Carolina, Kansas, and Texas.
The Democratic victory means that the remaining two years of US President Donald Trump's term in the White House will be significantly complicated, and a serious confrontation between Congress and the president is expected. Democrats have gained the power to block Trump's political agenda and investigate allegations of corruption during his two years in office.
The voting results reflect voters' outrage over the cost of living, tariffs, and Trump's war against Iran, which has caused a sharp rise in fuel prices and intensified dissatisfaction with the already very unpopular president.
Trump, despite previously questioning the election results, spoke in a conciliatory tone on election night, telling the New York Times that he is 'fully prepared to accept these results' and promising to 'work together with Democrats.' However, just minutes later, the president hinted at how he plans to deal with Democratic attempts to pass legislation by posting a picture of a red baseball cap with the word 'VETO.'
