The object has fallen in Balvi municipality near Tilža, revealed Jānis Trupovnieks (LZP), the chairman of the Balvi municipality council, to the LETA agency. He emphasized, however, that he has no further information.

The NBS issued an orange level warning about the threat in the airspace at 00:10, but announced its end around 00:35. The orange warning is the highest of two levels, when residents are advised to go indoors and observe the two-wall principle. NATO air patrol mission fighters were activated in the Baltic airspace.

It was reported that the National Armed Forces (NBS) are searching for an object that may have fallen in Balvi municipality, which is why an orange level warning was issued in Latvian airspace for nearly half an hour last night.

This year, residents in Latgale and Vidzeme have repeatedly received cell broadcast warnings about possible threats to the airspace, and some drones have also fallen and exploded in Latvia. In one case, a drone was shot down.

The mentioned drone incidents have been related to, most likely, drones involved in the Russia-Ukraine war approaching or entering Latvian airspace. In some cases, drones did not even enter Latvian airspace, and warnings were sent out more preventively.
