Published: 29.10.2026

The Latvian citizen passport ranks 21st in the world with 156 mobility points and access to 78.8% of rated destinations, according to the Latvian passport ranking viewed on October 28 on the Passport Reports platform. The platform publishes passport reports for 199 countries in 34 languages.

"Various other passport indices have previously also confirmed that the Latvian passport is among the world's strongest. This particular index ranks our passport 21st in the world. This year, in other passport indices - in the Global Passport Index, we ranked 4th and in the Henley Passport Index, we ranked 7th. Each of these indices has a different methodology or way of evaluating points, but all results confirm that our passport is both safe and strong," said Madara Puķe, head of the Public Relations Department of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, to Skonto media group.

The 21st place in the world means that with a Latvian citizen passport, 118 destinations are available without a visa; in 27 destinations, a visa is required upon arrival or an eased entry procedure is in place, while 11 destinations require an electronic entry permit. For entry to another 42 destinations, a visa is required. The mobility indicator is formed from the sum of 118, 27, and 11 destinations, while 78.8% is calculated from 198 foreign destinations, excluding Latvia itself.

Europe and International Groups
In the Passport Reports European table, Latvia ranks 28th out of 47 countries. In the world ranking, Latvia shares the 21st place with Estonia and the Czech Republic, which have the same mobility indicator and entry category distribution; Lithuania is ranked 22nd.

Travel Permits and Additional Formalities
In the lists of eased entry, the Latvian passport ranks 29th out of 46 passports regarding the USA, 32nd out of 84 regarding the United Kingdom, 32nd out of 54 regarding Canada, and 32nd out of 83 regarding China. In the USA, United Kingdom, and Canada lists, Latvia is included with an electronic entry permit requirement, while in the China list, visa-free entry is indicated. For Latvian passport holders in Malaysia and Singapore, the platform indicates visa-free stay up to 90 days and the requirement to fill in an arrival form; the specific duration of stay is determined upon entry. Filling in the arrival form is not an electronic entry permit.

Different passport indices can create different rankings because the classification of entry types, point allocation, and additional criteria applied in the case of equal results differ. Passport Reports applies the same, predetermined, and measurable criteria to all passports and publishes their priority order.
