Cyberattack Attempts on Store Refrigeration Systems Recorded in Latvia
Cyberattack attempts on store refrigeration systems have been recorded in Latvia, according to information published by the Ministry of Defense (MD) on Twitter.
The ministry indicates that cybersecurity incidents have been detected in several European countries, where attackers have unauthorized access to store refrigeration systems, and such cyberattack attempts have also been recorded in Latvia.
Cyber incidents in store refrigeration systems cause operational disruptions and significant financial losses. Considering that the attackers' targets may not only be refrigeration systems but also other operational technology (OT) systems, such as heating boilers, water pumps, or solar energy system control panels, the National Cyber Security Center urges organizations to ensure that their used OT systems are not exposed and directly accessible on the internet.
It is also recommended to use secure solutions and multi-factor authentication for remote access, as well as to separate OT systems from the organization's or company's overall information technology (IT) network.
The MD calls for immediate reporting to the cyber incident response institution 'Cert.lv' in case of a cybersecurity incident.
