European Space Education Resource Office Opens in Latvia

Today, the European Space Education Resource Office ("ESERO Latvia") will be officially opened at the University of Latvia (LU) in the House of Nature in Riga, as informed by the office representatives to the agency LETA.

Its aim is to promote students' interest in natural sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics by using space themes in the learning process.

The office has been established by LU in collaboration with Ventspils University of Applied Sciences and the Cēsis Space Exploration Center, concluding an agreement with the European Space Agency. "ESERO Latvia" will be the 23rd such office in Europe.

The office will provide educators with access to teaching materials prepared in Latvian, as well as offer professional development opportunities. Meanwhile, children and young people aged three to 18 will be able to participate in practical educational projects and explore the opportunities in the fields of science and space.

At the beginning of the project, it is planned to study the situation and needs of STEM education in Latvia. The results of the study will be used in the development of teaching materials and the planning of teacher training.
