At the conference “RIGA 2050”, discussions will be held on the long-term development of Riga
Next week, on October 29, the conference “RIGA 2050” will take place at the Spīķeri Concert Hall, initiating the development of the new sustainable development strategy for the capital and the programs for the coming years.
Guntars Ruskuls, head of the Strategic Management Department of the City Development Department of the Riga City Council, emphasizes that the main goal of the event is to open this process and start a dialogue with the public about the vision for the city's future, creating a shared understanding of its development.
“The conference program will include introductory presentations on what we envision Riga to be in 2050 and why this strategy is necessary in the first place.
There will also be references from the think tank “Latvia Forum 2050”, which developed proposals for Latvia's sustainable development strategy. Reports from the business environment and on the public cohesion perspective are also planned.
At the end of the event, a panel is scheduled where a small group of active opinion holders from various sectors will outline one day in future Riga in 2050 and what a quality city looks like, as we would like to see it in the future.”
This is according to Guntars Ruskuls, a representative of the Riga City Council. More information about the strategy and development program drafting process and opportunities for public involvement can be found on the website of the City Development Department of the Riga City Council.
