The Riga District Court will start hearing the case on January 27 of the next year at 10 AM, in which former Minister of Welfare Reinis Uzulnieks is accused of driving under the influence, as confirmed by the LETA agency.

The prosecutor's office confirmed to LETA that they offered to reach an agreement on the penalty, but the accused did not agree. Taking this into account, the case has been referred to court in the general procedure.

The prosecutor's office did not disclose the type and amount of the proposed penalty.

It has already been reported that in September 2026, Uzulnieks drove a car under the influence of alcohol in the municipality of Ropaži, until he was stopped by municipal police officers. The test revealed an alcohol concentration of 3.09 promiles in his breath.

Uzulnieks fully admits his guilt and expresses regret for his actions.

A seizure has been placed on the car driven by Uzulnieks in the criminal proceedings to ensure the special confiscation of property as stipulated by law.
