221 Educational Institutions Awarded for Contribution to Environmental Education
Today, the annual Eco-Schools award ceremony will take place in the Ziedonis Hall of the National Library of Latvia, where 221 educational institutions will be honored for their contribution to environmental education, the organizers informed the LETA agency.
This year, 94 educational institutions will receive the international 'Green Flag'. Eight of them have been awarded the highest program award - the 'Green Flag' with ambassador status. Meanwhile, 50 educational institutions will receive the Latvian Eco-Schools certificate.
The Eco-Schools program in Latvia covers more than 200 educational institutions - from preschools to universities. Its goal is to promote environmental education, sustainable daily habits, and community involvement in environmental protection.
The achievements of the Eco-Schools were evaluated by a national jury of 13 participants, representing experts from state institutions and environmental protection and education organizations.
The ceremony will also include information about the current issues of the Eco-Schools and 'Young Environmental Reporters' programs, opportunities to participate in training and various activities, as well as congratulating the competition laureates.
During the event, the annual international Action Days campaign will be launched, inviting reflection on the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development in everyday life.
