Trump expresses readiness to meet with Xi and Putin
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed readiness to participate in trilateral talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss nuclear disarmament. "It should be to discuss nuclear weapons and denuclearization," Trump told reporters on Monday when asked about the possibility of such a meeting.
A meeting between the leaders of the three largest nuclear powers to discuss disarmament would be "a very positive thing for the world," Trump said, adding that he would be ready to organize it at any moment. He noted that during such talks, he would also raise other issues, such as discussing the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine.
The Washington Post reported that such a meeting was proposed by Putin. The Kremlin has offered to hold a trilateral meeting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, which will take place on November 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, southern China.
China has not confirmed plans for such a meeting. In response to a question about Trump's statements, the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson said today that she currently has no information to provide. Meanwhile, Ukraine has warned that a meeting between Trump, Xi, and Putin would not contribute to ending the war.
